Dominick Brady, a documentary maker and southern rap connoisseur, just dropped part 1 of his epic historical document on the history of hip hop in Atlanta. From his website:
Headland & Delowe is a documentary series attempting to weave together the story lines of the artists, managers, promoters and journalists of Atlanta Hip Hop over the past three decades to get an understanding of where Atlanta Hip Hop has been and where it might be going.
In this episode I speak with pioneers like B-Boy Zapper of ATL’s HBO crew, MC Shy D and DJ Jelly, current stars like Cee-lo, Pill and DJ Mars and underground stalwarts like Senor Kaos and H20.
This kind of undertaking could only be possible through sincere passion for the city and it’s rap scene, and it’s something that Atlanta has needed and deserved for years. Stay tuned to BLVD ST and Dom Brady’s blog for new episodes of what is sure to be an incredible, educational series.

Not too be confused with my dawg, this is Burn One out of Montgomery, AL who been fuckin wit Dirty for a looong time…BlaKklown shit you hip…This one is off his latest project, “Back 2 Da R.A.P” and features his lil man on the intro…Im fuckin wit this song, some laidback introspective type shit..The type of shit I fucks with cause I relates too…Do yourself a favor & fucks with it..
Classic album of the day: Dirty “The Pimp & Da Gangsta”. The Pimp & Da Gangsta had already released an underground album locally in 1999 in their native Montgomery, Alabama before they were signed to Universal Records the following year. Their debut album was released in 2001 and help introduce the hip hop world to the sound of Alabama. The album was both pimp and gangsta in beats and lyrics, plus it provided us with some southern classics such as “Hit Da Floe”, “6 Deep Creepin”, “Rollin’ Vogues”, and “Candyman”. The album added another dimension to the southern sound, as we were able to get some authentic Alabama flavor. This album represented the culture and vibe of Alabama perfectly and set a standard for other acts from the area.
At the time, I thought the shit was a solid move for all parties involved. I praised Dre & Em for seeking a new Southern artist right at the beggining stages of the southern movement that aint stopped since it really kicked up full gear in 03. Me myself, I never heard of this nigga Stat beforehand and Im a pretty big underground nigga if I say so myself. Any ways, the niggas tape was jammin with this shit being tha standout track to me. That nigga holds his own against a beat thats a monster by itself. Aint shit really become of his stint over there at Aftermath, though he did get his name out here I guess. Dont know what the niggas up too nowadays, but lets show appreciation for a forgotten classic.
Lotta folks been sleepin on Gators latest tape wit Don Cannon. The production is serious, mainly handled by Focus formerly of Aftermath so you know the sound quality is a strongpoint of the tape. This my favorite shit off it right here, I been fuckin wit this song tough for a weeks now and aint really seen nobody biggin it up, so im throwing it out there to see what niggas thank.
