I haven’t gotten a chance to check this tape out yet but I’ve caught a few of their shows around ATL and their energy is contagious. Not to mention they made what could be my favorite song of the year Weed & Arizonas. I’m looking forward to working with these guys in the future.
The south side of Atlanta has always been a breeding ground for a certain sound of rap. The terms grassroots and homegrown have been thrown around, but perhaps the most accurate botanical word for that sound is Organic, and so the name of The Raign‘s new album is fitting. Like every Atlanta artist, they draw heavy influence from the Dungeon Family, who in their time came to epitomize organic hip hop. Much of that is due to the unabashed thoughtfulness and emotionality of their verses, and The Raign is picking up right where that legacy left off. This album has really thoughtful production and engineering, but it’s also one that needs a good sit-down listen in order to fully blossom lyrically. As far as Dungeon Family comparisons, it’s more Withdoctor than OutKast, but really it’s closer to the sound and spirit of CunninLynguists’ later records. It takes itself seriously and invites the listener to do the same, while avoiding that trap of being overly dark or depressing. Towering-soul-arrangement in parts and bluesy in others, it doesn’t lack for cohesiveness or vision, as is sometimes the case for albums with a variety of producers. A sincere country rap tunes effort that deserves a good listen.

Birmingham, AL rapper/singer/songwriter Southern Charm hooks up with KD over dope ass production from B-Flat Trax. Southern Charm’s album AM 2 PM coming soon as well as new projects from KD.
Will, a collaborator and friend of the homey Ethereal, is quickly becoming a favorite. He’s part of a newer breed of rappers that, without sounding corny, come at you with off-the-wall references and wordplay that rides that line between funny and vicious. Here he gets on a Dark Dread track with Peter Parker out of Cleveland and leaves it a pile of ashes. His newest project is called Stoned on MARTA, a title that speaks directly to my heart. Check out his bandcamp site, where you’ll be able to keep an eye on all the new material he’s bound to drop soon.
New shit from Birmingham, AL and Hollow Ent’s H.A.M. “Sky High Lighfe” (Prod. by B. Kirk) and “Kush Party”. Look out 4 H.A.M. street album “Sky High Lighfe” coming soon!
Bubba K is back again and countrier than ever with this new song. It’s an introspective anthem in the vein of groups like Rehab. It seems that Bubba’s music is maturing with him, which is always a refreshing thing to see from an artist. Basement Beats handles the production here. For those of you who didn’t know, BLVD St’s own DJ Burn One got his start as Bubba’s tour DJ. Keep an eye out for Miracle on Gamble Road, scheduled to come out on November 23rd. Props to DJ Booth and a special shout out to the homie Bobby Stamps. Hoping to hear this one on the major stations soon.
FDP’s long coming street album is finally here. It features guest appearances from KD and Modesty XO and production from J-Mil, Bamboo, BFlattrax, and B. Kirk
