Thiz iz vintage Memphiz shyt. It remindz me of my younger dayz visiting Memphis, TN, and hearing all tha dope azz underground shyt they had pumpin in tha late 90′z Thiz iz just that shyt we do n tha South n tha summer, “ridin ’round tha hood wit tha homiez gettin’ smoked out.” The way DJ paul & Juicy J freaked them samplez, and put their signature drumz and bassline in there iz so cold. Thiz iz real Country Rap Shyt. My favorite Three Six Mafia song of all-time.
This is one of those songs that I can listen to over and over a thousand times and never get tired of. It still feels as fresh today as it did when it first came out. The beat on the song about “that ice you can’t see” is the epitome of Country Rap Tunes. It was originally produced for and subsequently turned down by Mista, Bobby Valentino’s old group. The one chord, haunting church organ sounds pristine next to Mr. DJ’s spare drum pattern and the slick guitar that floats around in the background. It’s the perfect backdrop for Big Gipp’s illicit rhymes describing his experiences with the drug ecstasy (don’t forget the chap stick, lips dry quick) and Outkast’s thought provoking lyrics.
