21 Reese has been doing his thing in and around Palm Beach County for a minute. With 2108: Da Mix Album he’s looking to break out into a bigger spotlight. He’s assisted by fellow Palm Beach native and undeniable hitmaker Jim Jonsin, who laced him with several excellent tracks for this tape. The non-Jonsin production is surprisingly dope too, including a track produced by the mixtape’s host DJ Smallz. Download the mixtape at the link below.

Here’s a new mixtape from Tennessee’s own All Star, presented cassette style (two sides, each just one long track). Check out Starlito’s personal blog for more info and updates.

UPDATE: Sides A & B have been released together and you can download them here.

DJ Jelly has been keeping one step ahead of the game with his mixes for years now. He’s definitely known as a trend setter and taste maker, but he got to that point by making killer mixtapes (as in actual mixes, on actual tapes) and becoming a pioneer in southern DJing. Here’s a classic from the mid-90s called Bass Game Vol 2. The tracks are unlabeled so I can’t give an exact track list, but that actually helps capture the feeling of getting one of these tapes (usually a bootleg) from a cousin, friend, etc, and having no idea what was on it until you popped it in. Most of his mixes, even the ones ripped to the net in lo-fi, still sound head and shoulders above what most DJs put out these days. Plus they’re way better to put on at parties and functions. Make sure you play this one on a system that can put out some heavy boom.

DOWNLOAD: The Empire & DJ Skee Present Pill - 4075: The Refill (Mixtape)

Over a year ago when Pill’s manager Whiteboy D gave me the “On The Outside Lookin In” record I knew the homie was going to do big things. What I didn’t know is exactly how fast those big things would come. With nothing more than a killer flow and endless grind, Pill has quickly risen from an everyday street hustler to one of rap’s more promising stars. His reality based bars would have been dope in the glory days of southern rap but I find myself respecting them even more now considering the musical climate that we live in today, especially in ATL. As opposed to copping out and going for club/women records, Pill still chooses to rap about topics which relate to his struggles and how YOU can make your way out of those situations if you find yourself in them. Applaud that man. Clap for em.

DOWNLOAD: Mac Boney - Mac Hussein (Mixtape)

As I promised on twitter last friday nite, here’s Mac Boney’s much anticipated first mixtape since being released from a recent stint in jail. To me, this is by far his best work to date. Boney secures some very dope production from Cavie, Get Cool, 1500 or Nothin & Mars, Sanchez, Zaytoven, Nard & B and even a 9 year old named DJ Prophet who did the intro. This inspired production lays the perfect backing for Mac’s ruthless rhymes. My personal favorites include Thang Thang which features Memphis legend Kingpin Skinny Pimp in top form, Big Money, We Run This and Things I Do. But really, the whole tape rides. This is the perfect record for Atlanta right now.

The interludes feature a guy basically calling out all these fake, pussy motherfuckers that I’ve been ranting and raving about on this site for a minute now. He calls out all the people in Atlanta who are fucking up the game right now. “Snatching and grabbin out of stores, petty theft ass n*ggas” is one of my favorite quotable’s but he goes off on all the hoe shit that’s been fuckin up my city for the past couple years.

I spoke with Mac about the project and it’s refreshing to see that he feels pretty much like me about the state of ATL music. There’s a lot of shit out here getting a pass for no reason, a lot of fruity, swagger less-swagger jackin, homo music. I’m happy to say this mixtape is the antidote if you’re sick of the bullshit. Enjoy.
